The "three times speed" thing is kind of weird, since velocity always has to be measured relative to something. (If you're far from the center of mass when the ship turns, you'll feel centrifugal force.)Ĭhar's Zaku is said to actually only have about 30% more thrust, as I recall - which would mean 30% more acceleration. In the case of a spacecraft, it could also be worthwhile to have the pilot located near the ship's center of mass: this doesn't help with linear acceleration, but it helps when the ship turns. (So for instance, if you wanted to reverse direction by aiming the plane downward and continuing to turn in that direction until you're facing the other way - you'd start by rolling the plane upside-down, then pull up on the stick until you're aimed at the horizon again.) Fighter jet maneuvers are normally done with positive G-forces for this reason. In negative G-forces it rushes up into your head: this can cause blood vessels to break in your head - it could give you a red-out (blood in your eye turning your vision red) or, in a severe case, an embolism. In positive G-forces the blood rushes down to your legs. accelerating "up") pretty well, but negative G-forces (accelerating "down") are harder to take. The human body can take positive G-forces (i.e. No negative G-forces: This is a pretty big one.A pilot suit can counteract this by applying external pressure to the body (for instance, the legs) - resisting the blood's tendency to rush down there, possibly depriving the brain of oxygen. Pilot suits: G-forces can cause the blood inside the pilot's body to rush to one end of the body or another. ![]() There are various things you can do to help a pilot with G-forces: If the MS is accelerating, the pilot must be accelerating, too, or else he gets left behind. There is no way to reduce or cancel acceleration. Would an MS that goes Three Times Faster (TM) subject its pilot to (on average) three times the G-Force? Is there any way to reduce or cancel this? ![]()
